I love my neighborhood! I think the best way to describe it is urban beach! But, the best part of my ‘hood’ is definitely my neighbors! They know me, Marley and my love of roadside finds! I am always on the lookout for bits and pieces that I can revamp. The idea of upcycling and giving new life to furniture and things rather than adding to the landfill is good for everyone and the environment. Yes, my garage can now be inventoried with furniture that has been found on the street of my neighborhood!
Every few days, I get a call or a message from one of my lovely neighbors with a tip for a great piece that I might be interested in. How cool is that? So, of course, I hop in Minnie (Yes, I’ve named my car!) and run over to check out the newest find! It’s amazing how much you can actually stuff into a MiniCooper! Most of the time, the furniture is in good condition, maybe a few scratches or missing knobs but always repairable. So, neighbors, you know who you are, keep the calls coming!
Then, the fun begins! Creative juices flowing and off I go. The beauty of chalk paint is the opportunity to adjust and layer colors. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with finishes, adding color to the final wax to highlight the color, subdue the shade or accent the distressing. The options are endless!
So, before you put that old dresser or coffee table out on the front driveway with a sign saying, “Free To A Good Home,” give me a jingle or message me and let’s refresh it! When you relove your furniture, you are saving money, helping the environment AND updating your own living space. What a deal!
Check out some the pictures below. Can you tell which pieces were a roadside finds?
If you guessed the first and third photos, you were right!
